The things we miss.
The pattern for this piece came from a day when I was walking through a plaza in London. While on my way to The Tate, I looked up and saw this carving on an overhang for a building. The little things in a new (to me) city never cease to captivate. Especially cities with far more history than we have here. The amount of detail in old buildings, lights me up. A part of me yearns for the days when we paid that much attention to every part of making our environment beautiful. Then I realized, it’s about more than just something pretty, it’s about all the things that we miss.
So, this is a piece inspired by those things. Placing an emphasis on paying more attention. A reminder to stay curious about what and who is around us.
Sure, this piece is about the year 2020 and the lessons that we are, or have, or will learn. But it’s about a lot more than that too.
It’s about the bid that ours partners, friends, or family make that we miss entirely.
It’s about the judgements that arise by the way that a person chooses to portray themselves to the world.
It’s about the quiet person you think has nothing to say.
It’s about the days that you can’t catch yourself in a pattern that no longer suits you.
This piece is designed to be a tangible tool to help shift some of these mental grooves. Consciously moving to the side the bright shiny (but not necessarily always great) patterns, in favor of more observation, learning, and growing, from the place of deeper reflections.
Thank you as alway for your trust and patience Shannon as this one drifted to the surface. <3
